Ministerial Conference on Gender Equality

The 6th European Ministerial Conference on Equality between Women and Men: "Human rights and economic challenges in Europe - gender equality" is taking place in Stockholm, 8-9 June 2006.
The main objective of the Ministerial Conference is to raise awareness, at the highest political level, to the fact that the lack of gender equality implies personal, social and economic costs higher than the cost of those incurred in implementing gender equality and that there are social and economic benefits to be gained from its implementation. The message to be delivered is that, it is not possible to solve the current challenges (social inclusion, ageing population, migratory flows etc) that Europe is facing today, without including a gender perspective in all policies and measures adopted.The main theme of the Conference is:Human rights and economic challenges in Europe - gender equalityand the two sub themes are:Gender equality as an integral part of human rights in a democratic societyGender analysis and gender budgeting: tools for economic developmentRead more on the Council of Europe web site.
