PhD student in Gender Studies, Linkoping

Linköping University hereby advertises a position as PhD student in Gender Studies,
formally based at the Department of Thematic Studies.

The Department of Thematic Studies was the first in Sweden to offer an academic setting for thematically organised, interdisciplinary, socially relevant research. We combine strong research with undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and courses, often in collaboration with actors outside the university. Our point of departure is a critical, reflective approach, and we seek to develop new ways of understanding established social phenomena, in order to benefit both scientific and social development.

Duties
As a PhD student you will primarily devote yourself to your research. As a PhD student you are limited to work with education and administration up to 20 percent of full time.

Qualifications
Qualified to PhD studentships are only those who are or have been admitted to graduate studies.To be admitted to graduate studies, the applicant needs to have an advanced degree, have completed a minimum of 240 ECTS, of which at least 60 ECTS are on the advanced level. Furthermore, to be admitted to graduate studies in Gender Studies, the requirement is that at least 90 of the credits are in a subject matter related to that area, including knowledge in gender studies at a minimum of 45 credits.

Documented knowledge within the field of gender studies is a requirement for the position. A degree within, for example, sociology, anthropology, ethnology, HR or political science is suitable for the position. Possible specialities/majors that could be relevant are intersectional work-life studies, gender and organisation studies, qualitative methods, queer and trans studies, critical studies of men and masculinity, or a combination of these. We welcome applicants with experience of interdisciplinary studies with a major in the social sciences of the humanities.

Upon application, applicants are expected to present a preliminary research proposal for a PdD thesis project.

Appointment time
The appointment will be until further notice for a maximum of one year at a time. A doctoral student may not be employed during a period exceeding eight years. The total time of appointment must not exceed the equivalent of four years´ full time research training.
