GIG, University of Gothenburg
The Centre for Interdisciplinary Gender Research (GIG) is a resource for researchers at the University of Gothenburg aimed to promote high-quality gender research and other research with a gender respective. In October 2011, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gothenburg decided that GIG should be positioned at the Swedish Secretariat for Gender Research.
GIG aims to contribute towards creating mutual exchanges between different groups of researchers, both within and beyond the University. Gender research is currently carried out at the University of Gothenburg at a number of different faculties and institutions. Representations, relationships, practical experience and – not least – the production of knowledge are all investigated on the basis of various perspectives, methods and scientific contexts. Interdisciplinary collaboration brings improved opportunities for analysing societal problems and developing the production of knowledge. Knowledge of normalisation processes can be improved, and a deeper understanding is obtained of how these processes are disputed and can be challenged.
