Critical Dementia Studies Workshop

As part of a new partnership between Södertörn University (Sweden) and the University of Stirling (UK) a series of workshops are planned during 2019 that will bring together a multi-disciplinary mix of academics and researchers to discuss and explore critical approaches within dementia studies. Our aim is to draw upon the wider field of critical thinking in the social sciences, including areas such as feminism, post-colonial studies, queer theory and critical disability/crip studies to consider alternative approaches to dementia.

We are bringing together academics and researchers working within the field of dementia studies with others who have relevant experience and knowledge in related fields. So, if you have an interest in dementia, and are working within the social sciences, arts or humanities, you would be very welcome to join us. The workshops themselves will be friendly and informal gatherings and conversations with a small group of academics from across Europe.
We plan to hold the first of three workshops at Södertörn Universityin March 2019 and are able to offer two bursaries of 500 euros for candidates travelling from the EU, and two of 250 euros for candidates from within Sweden. The bursaries are intended as a contribution to the cost of budget travel and accommodation to attend the first workshop. Any additional costs incurred will need to be met by your own institution.
The workshop will run over two days from the morning of Monday 11thMarch to the afternoon of Tuesday 12th.
If you would be interested in applying for a bursary please send an email with the following information: Your current status (student/ECR); your institutional affiliation; the discipline you’re working in and a brief (no more than 250 words) outline on why participation in this workshop would be beneficial to your academic development.
